The Languages Department of the Humanities and Letters Division and the Society of Ateneo Literature and English Majors (SALEM) launched the very first English Week, yesterday, Sept. 14 2015, during the activity period at F711 and F712.

The event was planned with the theme “English: A global superhighway for more humane and ecologically responsible local communities.”

All students enrolled in English subjects joined and were selected by their teachers to participate in the upcoming competitions.

Language Department Chair Dr. Stella Marie Arcenas shared her excitement about the event.

“I am very excited. We have been planning this since July,” Arcenas said.

The organizers planned the event’s activities to take place on three separate days: Sept. 14 (Monday), Sept. 16 (Wednesday), and Sept. 18 (Friday).

The contest for the first day were a spelling bee, an essay writing contest, and a poster making competition.

For the second day, there will be Extemporaneous speaking and Jazz Chant contests at room J301.

And for the third day, a culmination activity will be held at the Martin Hall.

“Everybody is invited to watch the different events,” Arcenas encouraged.

End the silence of the gagged!
