The Humanities and Letters (HUMLET) cluster took the Utakan Quiz Bowl 2019 by storm as they bagged the championship title with a score of 122 points yesterday at the Martin Hall.

Following HUMLET were the Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) cluster with 109 points and School of Engineering (SEA) with 99 points.

Each team consisted of six members- five students and one faculty member.
The contest was divided into three rounds: easy, average, and difficult.

Correct answers in the easy round were worth two points each, five points each for the average round, and 10 points each for the difficult round.

The questions were from varying categories such as philosophy, theology, physics, mathematics, Filipino, literature, entertainment, etc.

Maria Daniella Meking, a 4th year representative of HUMLET, shared that aside from being entertaining, Utakan gives an avenue for intellectuals to enjoy and engage in collaborative competition.

“It’s [Utakan] a good avenue for teachers to interact with students in a non-formal setting especially those from different courses and different year levels,” she said.

This year’s theme for the quiz bowl was Marvel superheroes. Judges and facilitators wore superhero costumes that were in line with the theme and boosted the contest’s entertainment value.
