Fostering security amidst uncertainty, the Office of Student Affairs, in partnership with the SAMAHAN Office of the Treasurer, now offers student insurance plans for Ateneans in times of need.
This was presented during the 2nd SAMAHAN Townhall: Insurance Policies conducted via Zoom last September 30, wherein the insurance services students can avail of in emergencies were discussed.
These insurance plans are provided by the Philippine British Assurance Policy Inc.(PBAC) to the Ateneo de Davao University. PBAC representatives Rachele Flores and Roger Ofalla walked through the insurance policy coverage, extensions of the insurance, and the procedure for claiming the benefits during the townhall orientation.
“The student protection plan offers a comprehensive insurance program that provides protection to covered person due to accident. The plan provides 24 hours a day, 365 days a year anywhere in the Philippines,” Flores said during the online session.
The insurance policy coverage includes accidental death/disablement; permanent and total disability; unprovoked murder and assault, accidental medical reimbursement; accidental medical reimbursement due to COVID. The insurance service also included daily hospitalization allowance, burial cash assistance, ambulance assistance, fire assistance, and comprehensive general liability.
Ofalla also added that third parties such as guests on campus will also be covered as long as the accident happened on the school premises.
Accordingly, coverage for COVID-19 assistance was newly introduced in the policy. Ateneans’ expenses, when affected by the virus, can now be reimbursed under the accidental medical reimbursement due to COVID and be aided under the daily hospitalization allowance due to COVID-19.
However, it was clarified in the session that self-inflicted injury, provoked murder or assault, riot, civil commotion, and injuries or damage due to leisure activities were not included in the insurance coverage.
Ateneans can claim insurance benefits for different illnesses for the whole policy period, from July 4, 2022, to July 4, 2023. Further details of the insurance policy, such as the amount and scope of the coverages, will be distributed to the students via their SIS and AdDU email.
