Determination, hard work, and prayers led the way for Ateneo de Davao University Nursing graduate Laila Frances Duca to top the November 2022 Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination (PNLE).

Obtaining a rate of 88.20% and one of the top 10 placers, Duca shared that topping the PNLE was something she never expected, considering the 24,903 nursing examinees.

“I never expected to be a top notcher given the number of examinees from well-known institutions, given also that there are a lot more takers who are far more deserving to top the boards,” Duca told Atenews.

The nursing topnotcher said that for someone like her who was faint-hearted, nursing school challenged her and helped her build confidence for public service and helping people.

“Nursing is always thought to be not meant for those with fainted heart, but I was one. But Nursing school helped me develop confidence to acquire some knowledge and skills (if not all) to be able to care for my future patients.”

As for the preparations for the PNLE, Duca said that prayers paired with manifestations were her companion as she went through self-doubt while reviewing and taking the board exam.

“Thinking that your preparations will never be enough, or that your batchmates have read and understood a lot more. [But] one thing I learned is to never compare yourself among others’ progress. Always trust on your preparations alongside prayers.”

Duca shared that her reviewing system circulated on exchanging discussions to understand the concepts and repetitive readings for better retention.

“For me, study routines/preparations should always be individualized for it to be effective and convenient for the person. Above all, prayers genuinely helped me from my preparations and even after waiting for the results,” Duca added.

Ateneo de Davao University is also the lone top-performing school from Davao City with a 100 percent passing rate, where all 53 examinees passed the board exam. The board passers can be viewed here.

The November 2022 Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination was conducted last November 12-13, 2022 at testing centers across the country.
