Making books accessible to everyone and encouraging people of all ages to appreciate the art of affordable reading, the Big Bad Wolf (BBW) Book Sale finally opens its doors in Davao from November 23 to December 2 at The Tent, Azuela Cove.
BBW is known for being the world’s largest book sale offering a wide selection of quality books with discounts ranging from 50 to 90 percent.
It will be open for 24 hours non-stop until the very last day.
Bookworms can expect to find best-selling novels, books with different categories such as science fiction, biography, art and design, general fiction, young adult, religion, business, architecture, and augmented reality. Interactive books and an extensive collection of children’s stories are also available.
The book sale was founded in 2009 by Jacqueline Ng and Andrew Yap. BBW started in Malaysia then ventured to Thailand, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka in the following years.
“Our mission is to increase English literacy rate in the world which is why we go to different places. Most of the places are developing countries. On the other hand, we saw how excited Filipinos were when it comes to books at sale in Manila and Cebu, so we decided that we must bring it to Davao,” Ng said.
Senior Brand Manager Myra Chua pointed out in an interview that part of the proceeds from the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale will go to Gawad Kalinga to help build more communities and help farmers.
“Our aim is to go to 45 cities next year. The faster we go to these cities, the faster people benefit from this especially children,” she said.
Meanwhile, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and her son Mateo Lucas Carpio were spotted shopping in the opening.
“We need to create love for reading, inspire and empower more people,” the Mayor said.
More than a million books of over 20000 titles are being displayed on the Big Bad Wolf first-ever Davao leg. Majority of the books are sourced from the United States and United Kingdom.
