Global obsession.

This is what Perry Lamanilao of #ShiftDavao said to describe the people’s current situation towards social media in a press conference last July 11.

He stressed that Filipinos, unknowingly, are early adapters of technology. He emphasized that people now developed a behavior of checking their social networking accounts thanks to the mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

“However, social media is not just Facebook or twitter. It’s broader than that,” he added.

According to Lamanilao, this was the very reason why there is a need to educate people on responsible use of social media.

” We want to bring this kind of medium to everyone through #ShiftDavao. We invited reputable personalities to talk about this,” Lamanilao explained.

One of the speakers will be Maria Ressa, founder and CEO of Rappler Inc., a trustworthy social news network in the country.

The seminar would also discuss the deeper analysis, research and studies on social media.

Furthermore, he mentioned that only two schools are offering courses related to social media and sadly, even some teachers do not know what social media is.

” How can they teach their students about it if they don’t know how to use it?,” he stressed.

Because of this, they are aiming for students and professionals as participants to the said conference.

#ShiftDavao will be on July 27, 2013 at the Finster Auditorium of Ateneo de Davao University.

There will be a live streaming in Rappler, MySkyCable and in University of the Immaculate Conception auditorium. The organizers of the said event said they are expecting 1,800 participants.
