In the height of President Duterte’s 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA) last Monday afternoon, July 23, progressive groups across the country rallied in the streets to show their protest against the administration.

In Davao City, various groups such as Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, Karapatan, Kadamay, Gabriela, Anakbayan, Kabataan Partylist, and Kilusang Mayo Uno gathered at the Freedom Park across Ateneo de Davao University, carrying signboards that reflect their frustration against the government.

Kilusang Mayo Uno expressed their frustration against the United States.

“Kinahanglan magtukod ta ug independent foreign policy aron mapalingkawas kita sa dugay na panahon na kita giulipan niining imperialistang Estados Unidos,” the Kilusang Mayo Uno representative said.

Anakbayan pushed for the accessibility of free education for everyone.

They also expressed their frustration with Duterte’s war on drugs, extrajudicial killings, lumad killings, martial law, and contractualization.
