What happens when an entire university decides to break its limits? We have already conquered the top — the only way is to take it further.

Kicking off the month-long activities, Ateneans congregated in prayer at the University Chapel. The solemn thanksgiving was then complemented by the loud ringing of drums and the rhythmic poise of majorettes as the parade of colors blasted off with the hues of their respective clusters.

The cluster representatives proudly showcased their pride and honor by waving their flags. Their spirits ignited as the torches illuminated the hall, giving hue to the appearance of the Blue Knight.

Palarong Atenista 2026 overall head Demme Gem Taypin welcomed the audience with a reminder that Palarong Atenista is not just a competition but also a shared community-building. 

“Palaro is the people that we meet, the friendship we strengthen, and the value we carry along after the final result.”

Palarong Atenista recognizes and challenges the boundaries that exist, and how Ateneans work towards overcoming them.

“We recognize not only the challenges that we overcome, but also the boundaries that separates us from one another. We celebrate what it means to be part of the Ateneo community.” 

She further highlighted how Palarong Atenista strengthens the Ateneo community by showcasing skills and sportsmanship.

“In Palarong Atenista, we also value and highlight the sportsmanship, talents, and skills of our cluster athletes. And in a way, that also helps strengthen the Ateneo community.”

Taypin also revealed why “Break the Limits: Take It Further” was chosen as this year’s tagline, as it signifies a move for Ateneans to break out of their respective clusters and unite Ateneo under one banner through competitive spirit.

“Breaking the limits is how we break boundaries, and we extend camaraderie towards the people in Palarong Atenista.”

This year’s Palarong Atenista commenced with a Holy Mass, a parade of colors, and the anticipated cheerdance competition, kicking off a month-long string of games and matches.

The opening ceremony was held at the 4F Martin Hall on September 18, 2026.
