The Accountancy (ACC) Griffins taunted the School of Nursing (SON) Panthers and the Social Sciences (SS) Dragons in singles and doubles divisions, smashing their way to gold to block them from snagging another triumph in Palarong Atenista 2025 Badminton women’s tournament.
In the doubles category, ACC Griffins’ Krysha May Dagundon and Kate Margarette Molina edged out in thrilling back-to-back rallies against SS Dragons.
“Actually, first set kay nakulbaan na mi… pero nakabawi ra pud mi pagka-third set because gi-apply na namo ang among nalearn na strategy, gi-apply namo ang front and back, ang rotation namo… Ginatry namo ug pangita kung unsa ang best na play para makuha namo ang title na championship,” Molina stated.
ACC Griffins narrowly took the first set at 22-20, only to see SS Dragons rumble in the second set with a commanding 6-21 and force a decisive third set. In the finale, ACC Griffins held their nerve, ultimately sealing the match with a tense 23-21 finish.
The duo’s effective communication with each other strengthened their synchronized court coverage that kept the momentum throughout long rallies, outpacing their opponents.
“[Ang] communication jud during the game, importante jud kaayo ang communication,” she added..
Molina asserted that the victory was a collective effort for the entire Accountancy cluster, fueling their drive to give their best every match.
“Dili lang man jud ni para sa amoa, para man ni sa whole accountancy cluster, so gihatag jud namo among best.”
Redeeming herself from last year’s singles setback, Lorraine Dominique Verallo showcased finesse at the court, as she finally bagged the trophy against the SON Panthers with a straight-set victory, 23-21, 22-20.
“Ang natutunan ko is that patience is a virtue talaga because I was unplaced last year, so ngayon I really tried na magredeem sakong sarili,” she stated.
For the doubles, SS Dragons obtained silver and SON Panthers with bronze; while in the singles showdown, SON Panthers and Humlet Wolves clasped the silver and bronze in their claws, respectively.
The women’s badminton singles and doubles championship was held on September 21 at M2 Badminton Center, Obrero, Davao City.
