The School of Nursing (SON) Panther secured the championship medal, besting the Humanities and Letters (HUMLET) Wolf in a best-of-three showdown, scoring 2-1.

The tournament adhered to the classic 301 format, where players start with 301 points by default with the goal of bringing their score to zero before their opponent.

In the first round of the finals, SON’s Zechariah Lacubtan took the lead by reducing 49 points from the first strike, while HUMLET bet, Niña Lobitana’s turn started with a total of 26 points before she turned the tide halfway by immediately scoring 120 points, bringing her total down to 145.

The second game of the championship commenced with Lacubtan getting 73 points during the first turn while Lobitana got 15, eventually leading to Lacubtan’s win amidst Lobitana’s 50-point bullseye.

In the third round, Lacubtan scored 85 points on the first throws, ultimately bringing the points down to 180 during the second throw, and continuing the advantageous start until the gap of the scores was big enough, with Lacubtan only needing 9 points left while Lobitana was still at a hundred points.

After numerous busts, Lacubtan secured the gold medal with double 3s.

When asked about her preparations for the said tournament, Lacubtan credited her preparation to advice from different top players like Palarong Atenista 2023 Darts Men champion and current third placer Rafael Alterado, and this year’s Darts Men champion James Philip Pulido.

Lacubtan also shared her struggles in finding time to practice as her nursing duties are mostly assigned until late at night.

“Di ko maka-practice jud ug kanang grabe jud nga practice. Siguro kanang mga pinakalit lang like kanang pahapyaw lang ba kung mu-adto ra ko diria kay akong duty man pud gud kay 3PM to 11PM. Pirmi jud ko ma-3 to 11 kanang pang-gabii nga duty so wala koy time,” she said.

The tournament was held on the 4th Floor of Martin Hall on September 15.
