After falling short in last year’s Palarong Atenista Valorant Grand Finals, Business and Management (B&M) Vipers asserted their dominance over the defending champions Computer Studies (CS) Chameleons, 3-0, in what seemed like a rematch of last year’s finals round.
B&M Vipers’ Kenneth Ti-in, Clyde Amistad, Lawrence Timbreza, Marcus Ricardo, Alejandro Gatmaitan, and John Benedict Costoya outclassed the CS Chameleons leading to a sweep victory and reclaiming their title after succumbing to the same opponent last year.
“I felt happy because last year B&M was only second, and this year we won since we practiced hard and always listened to the shot call of each other, and at the same time mastered the fundamentals of the game,” B&M Vipers Captain Kenneth Ti-in stated.
The B&M Vipers isolated the CS Chameleons to four rounds coming into the first half of the first map with their picture-perfect strategy and crisp aim, but the CS Chameleons slowly crawled their way back into the game, securing round after round to even up the match 11-11.
Despite the built momentum by the CS Chameleons, the B&M Vipers kept their composure and played out the last two rounds of the first game to perfection, denying the comeback and securing Map 1: Sunset, 13-11.
“They were very good when it comes to their utility usage, especially when they performed their push strat, but at the end of the day, we adapted and read what they were doing,” Ti-in said.
Map 2: Ascent saw the CS Chameleons adopt an aggressive strategy, taking an early 4-1 lead with quick flashes and entry tactics from their duelists, but the B&M Vipers continued to level with them, leading to a back-and-forth half ending at 6-6.
The B&M Vipers maintained the match, leading to a thrilling 13-11 win on the second map, highlighted by their duelist Alejandro “Sid” Gatmaitan’s explosive performance of three bullets, three victims outburst in a single round.
“Usually we are very passive but sometimes rush things, but we had to see what they were doing first before we made our move,” Ti-in said.
Entering Map 3: Lotus, the B&M Vipers steamrolled in the first half, 9-3 as all of the players popped-off leading to a 12-2 scoreline in the late game.
Despite efforts from the CS Chameleons to mount a comeback, the B&M Vipers closed out the match and annihilated them,13-6, reclaiming the crown they had held for two consecutive years before losing it to the same foes last season.
The CS Chameleons settled with a second-place finish, followed by the School of Nursing (SON) Panthers who placed third.
The Valorant championship game was held last September 22 at the NCGC HQ Esports Hub.
