With a 2-0 win, the Accountancy (ACC) Griffins secured a back-to-back championship title in the Palarong Atenista 2024 Women’s Scrabble tournament.
ACC Griffins’ Regine Cabel, who was also her cluster’s representative last year, won the first finals game against B&M Vipers’ Chrystanni Gregore with a close lead of 311 – 286. The second finals game saw her secure the two-time championship with another close lead of 318 – 287.
Despite the time constraints she faced due to her internship, Cabel found a way to fit her preparations into her schedule as a 4th-year BS Accountancy student.
“What I did is that I listed down the words, actually may list na ako beforehand… Since nag iba kami ng dictionary ngayon, I just cross-checked it with notes with the possible two-letter words, three-letter words, and so on,” Cabel shared.
Cabel also appreciated the return to face-to-face games in this year’s scrabble tournament compared to last year’s, which was held online.
“Now it’s easier kay face to face na kami naga match… Karon kay walay phone, wala tanan. So better because honest jud ang game,” Cabel said.
She also used the same techniques and strategies compared to last year, since scrabble’s rules remain the same despite the platform.
The B&M Vipers placed second in the women’s scrabble cup, with the Computer Studies (CS) Chameleons placing in third.
This year’s scrabble tournament was held in room F213 of the Finster Building on September 15.
