Ateneo de Davao University, in cooperation with the School of Nursing, the Philippine Nursing Student’s Association (PNSA) and the College Red Cross Youth (CRCY), held a blood-letting campaign called “Dugong Atenista” Friday afternoon at the Thibault grounds with the theme, “It Takes A Strong Atenean’s Heart to Bleed Love”.

Kareen Rosales, president of PNSA, and Renzei Mikhail Talaboc, president of the CRCY, explained how the activity was done.

“There are three stations in the event. On the first station, students were given registration and interview. Then on the second station, students were given an overall health assessment such as checking their body weight and blood pressure. And on the last station is the approval so that students would proceed to the blood extraction,” the two said.

Over 60 people registered and participated in the said campaign. With the help and assistance of Red Cross volunteers, the students were able to donate many bags of extracted blood during the university-wide campaign.

“As stated with the theme from this event, “It Takes A Strong Atenean’s Heart to Bleed Love”, and [because of] the shortage of blood, as a club that promotes a healthy lifestyle, we decided that we should organize this event to help those who are in need,” Talaboc added.

The donated blood from the campaign will be given to the Red Cross for further testing and evaluation before they will distributed to patients from several hospitals needed most.
