The Accountancy Division trumped all other competing teams on the way to winning first place in the recently-concluded Utakan Spelling Bee competition at the Roxas Grounds Wednesday afternoon.

The interdivision competition was one of the highlights of the celebration of the University College Days. It aims to assess the students’ knowledge on the correct spelling of words and their meanings.

The competition was divided into three rounds: easy, average and difficult.

The School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) and Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) Division dominated the easy round, with both divisions scoring 18 points. However, on the average and difficult rounds, the Accountancy Division managed to string together a scoring streak, putting them on top with 171 total points.

The School of Engineering and Architecture accrued 138 points and was declared 1st runner up. The 2nd runner up title was bagged by the Humanities and Letters Cluster, scoring 121 points in total.

The Accountancy division, represented by Yahairah D. Guiamla and Mary Adeliz C. Tabaloc, said that they did not anticipate such victory.

“I didn’t really expect na mananalo kami,” Tabaloc said.

Guiamla further added that it was ‘God’s intervention’ that helped them to correctly spell the words and to win the competition.

The competition was facilitated by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA).
