Three students and the elevator operator were trapped in a Finster Hall elevator at around 10 a.m. today, July 28, as malfunctions caused the lift to stall in the middle of operation.
Joedelle Israel, one of the students, said that the elevator stopped between the second and ground floors.
The people inside tried measures to escape, such as restarting the elevator and opening it from the inside, but to no avail. They eventually resorted to calling for help. Rescue arrived around 30 minutes after the call, with the rescuers opening the elevator door from the outside.
Since the elevator was stuck between floors, those trapped had to climb a ladder and squeeze themselves through a two-feet wide opening at the top part of the door. They managed to get out of the elevator by 10:30 a.m.
“Kulba pud siya,” said Darrel Aben. “Kulba siya kay ga-bounce-bounce ang elevator.”
When asked what they did inside while waiting for help, Israel shared, “Wala, nag-selfie-selfie.”
Asked about how they felt after being rescued, Aben joked, “Murag superstar.”
The same elevator was out of use during the first few weeks of the semester.
