An electrical fire broke out at the rooftop of Finster building, Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) around 8:30 PM on Friday evening. Authorities reported no injuries from the incident.

“Naay nagspark sa ibabaw then nag-aso’g kusog,” Police Corporal Philip Ocon, the person who first saw and reported the incident, said in an interview.

Fire tenders immediately responded to the break out and it was instantly contained.

“Dira nagsugod sa may ibabaw sa building, sa may solar (panel), gi-inform dayon nako ang Central 911. More or less one minute niabot na ang Bangoy fire station,” Ocon added.

An email from the University Information Technology Office (UITO) said that the incident might shut down the learning platform used by the university for its online classes.

“There’s currently no electricity in the server room. Services such as Moodle (Daigler, Hurtado, Berchmans, Gonzaga) as well as other information systems may go off anytime soon,” it stated.

The Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) is yet to release a statement regarding the cause of the fire.
