Ten Catholic schools gathered at Martinez Sports Complex in Ateneo de Davao University – Matina campus to celebrate the opening of Davao Association of Catholic Schools (DACS) sportsfest.

This year’s sportsfest has 542 participants from Philippine Women’s College, Holy Cross of Calinan, University of Immaculate Conception, Saint Peter College of Toril, San Pedro College, John Paul College II of Davao, Holy Cross of Davao College, Assumption College of Davao, Gabriel Taborin College of Davao and this year’s host, Ateneo de Davao University.

DACS Executive director Mr. Jimmie dela Vega welcomed the participants with an inspiring remark about sports development as a part of holistic growth.

“A holistic life and a fully developed human being is not always about studies or work or to have economic goals in life. It is also being able to enjoy life as it is,” dela Vega said.

Dela Vega also stressed that students should participate in sports development as it is a counterbalance to their academic work.

The welcoming address was followed by the lighting of the urn initiated by the Blue Knight Monicker and Jess Evangelio, the Oath of sportsmanship done by Nico Marte and the declaration of opening by the DACS board of trustees.

As DACS Sports fest 2013 started, Butch Ramirez, AdDU Athletic Director, expects higher level of quality in terms of engagement and conduct in the games.
