Two days after the launching of candidates for the 2019 SAMAHAN Central Board General Elections, the Ateneo de Davao University Commission on Election (AdDU COMELEC) finally releases its official list of candidates.

There are only five candidates vying for the top three positions this year.
Janna Denise Fronteras of Bahaghari and Ernesto Gabriel Gallemit of Piglasapat are running for the position of treasurer while first year students Renz Allan Lacorte of Piglasapat and Faye Allen Matas of Bahaghari are competing for the position of Secretary General.

Francis Consolacion from Piglasapat is the only candidate running for the SAMAHAN Presidency.

When asked about the assurance of winning the Presidency since only one candidate ran for the position, COMELEC Chairperson shared that there are still voting guidelines that must be followed before the election can be considered valid.

“The rule for the president or for the big three [President, Secretary- General and Treasurer] kay 50 percent plus one of the whole population, meaning if dili siya kaabot sa 50 percent plus one, failure gyud ang whole eleksyon dili lang sa iyahang position,” she said.

“If failure, so usabon gyud nato tanan, from the filing [of certificate of candidacy] hangtud sa election proper,” she added.

To provide more information on election guidelines, COMELEC posted the revised 2019 edition on their social media accounts.

The launching of candidates for the 2019 SAMAHAN General elections was spearheaded by the AdDU COMELEC which aims to introduce the candidates for the SAMAHAN Central board and cluster representatives for the academic year 2019-2020.

The activities for the election week as announced by the COMELEC are as follows: Presidential Debate on January 23, the Miting de Avance on January 25, Mock Elections on January 26 and the 2019 election proper from January 30 to February 1.
