Students from the different PE 3 classes turned their attention to sports as Ateneo de Davao University’s Physical Education Department held this year’s PE Day last Saturday, September 28 at the AdDU Matina Campus.

PE Day is an annual culmination event for all students taking Physical Education 3 (Team Sports), wherein the students were called to participate in tournament-patterned games. Each PE 3 class corresponded to a team color depending on their PE instructor.

Before the games started, William “Butch” Ramirez, the University Athletic Director, enthused the participants about sports and physical fitness.

“Physical fitness is a measurement of success,” Ramirez said.

He invited the students to partake an active lifestyle and to dedicate oneself to improve. He added, “It’s not about the size of the human person or intelligence, but it’s about the human heart, persistence and dedication.”

After the Torch Lighting and the Oath of Sportsmanship, the different games began.

The event, which lasted within the whole day, featured the different colors competing against each other in Basketball, Volleyball, Kickball and events on Track and Field and Parlor Games.

Despite the numerous games, several students did not seem to enjoy the event. Some said that the time-in/out requirement for attendance and the security were too strict. Others believed that the event was not exciting if they were not participating.

“PE Day is great, but the day seems long if you’re not a player,” said Joselv Albano , who was chatting with his friends despite the ongoing games.

Still, cheers erupted from the crowd as the day closed with the awarding of the champions of the different games.

PE Day was part of the Physical Education Department’s culminating activities for the different classes. For the second semester, PE 2 and PE 4 courses shall have their PE Night activities on March and February.
