In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Daily Bread Program (DBP), the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) community came together to reflect on the significance of compassion and solidarity in alleviating the burdens of others.

Marking the culmination of AdDU’s Theology week, the Theology Department and the Office of Admission and Aid held a concert-for-a-cause, aiming to fund the University’s Daily Bread Program (DBP) and highlighting the University’s commitment to cura personalis.

The DBP is primarily established to respond to the issue of food insecurity among AdDU scholars.

Theology Department Chairperson Roawie Quimba highlighted that the concert’s main objective is not only to gain funds but also to teach people the value of imploring aid for the less fortunate.

“The concert for cause is not just about money. It’s about embracing something greater than yourself. That is to be with other people, especially those who are in need. In particular, students in Ateneo who need sustenance in their daily meals,” Quimba said.

Quimba also stressed that the program aims to instill to the scholars the value of giving back to their communities and to also help others.

“The Daily Bread Program has also become an instrument of people to emulate as they go further in life, they graduate, have their careers, and they can bring it to their respective communities and families.”

DBP scholar and member of the Tagakaolo ethnic group Angelica Gualna shared that the program served as a vital instrument for her to aspire doing greater things in life, including giving back to her community.

“Dakong tabang ang Daily Bread Program pati sa akong mga kaubanan nga IP, rason pud para makab-ot namo among mga pangandoy sa kinabuhi… Puhon makabalik mi sa amoang community, ang Daily Bread Program nagtudlo sa amoa og concern sa uban, pagtabang.”

Meanwhile, AdDU President Rev. Fr. Karel San Juan also expressed his hopes to persist in the continuous development of the program.

“With the blessings or the challenges in our commitment, we should commit ourselves to sustaining this (DBP) forever. As president, I want to commit myself more to do more deliberate fundraising… We are committed to continue and develop the Daily Bread Program further.”

The concert featured the talents of Jeff Malazo and Jenny De Vera of Lakbai Guitar Duo.

The concert was held on November 16, 2024, at the 4th floor of Martin Hall.
