A book about the struggle for cultural acknowledgement entitled Recognition: Examining Identity Struggles, written by Dr. Renante D. Pilapil, was officially launched and made available to the public yesterday, Aug. 19, at room F213 of Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU).

The author, Pilapil, is currently the Dean for AdDU’s School of Arts and Sciences department. The book is his first and was published by the Ateneo de Manila University Press.

According to sources, the purpose of the book is to attempt to examine the contemporary struggles for recognition waged by various cultural troupes in Mindanao, more specifically, the Lumad and Muslims, at a conceptual level.

During the event, Pilapil gave a discussion related the book’s content of recognition. He talked about the broad spectrum that it encompasses, with regard to both concept and practicality.

Resident AdDU faculty and staff such as Dr. Macario Tiu, the University Publications Office Director, as well as Mr. Ian Clark Parcon and Atty. Jamil Adrian Kahlil Matalam, both teachers from the school’s Philosophy department, also gave their reviews and comments about the book.

The event was attended by the local media, representatives from different publications and faculty members from various schools in Davao.
