In memory of the Roxas Night Market bombing, the Ateneo de Davao community spearheaded by the SAMAHAN and University Community Engagement and Advocacy Council (UCEAC), held a candle lighting activity for its third anniversary at Our Lady of Assumption, CCFC Building, Roxas Boulevard.

According to Atty. Meong Cabarde, Director of the Center Against Illegal Drugs (CAID) and member of UCEAC, the commemoration serves as a reminder to the community to continue fighting for justice.

“This is a constant reminder to all the people of Davao, specially sa AdDU, na we do everything we can within our means to help educate the people and the community about the ills of extremism, terrorism, and violence,” he said.

Cabarde added that the candle lighting event is significant as it prompts people to pray for the Roxas bombing victims.

“For our religiosity and spirituality, we continue to pray for those who died during the tragic incident,” he shared.

He also highlighted that the incident serves as a reminder of love to prevail.

“This is also a constant reminder na love should prevail over hatred, prejudice discrimination,” Cabarde said.

The candle lighting activity was opened and led by Renz Lacorte, Samahan Secretary-General along with the members of the Samahan Central Board where they offered short prayers for the victims, their families, and the whole community of Davao City.

The event was participated by members of the SAMAHAN and UCEAC along with students of the Ateneo de Davao University.
