Highlighting the festivity and vibrancy of the Mindanawon and Atenean identity, the 71st Ateneo Fiesta, branded as Saulog 2019, officially commenced this morning at the Martin Hall.
“Saulog” is a Cebuano term which means “to celebrate.”
The official theme, “Mother Mary: Companion of Every Beloved, Gifted and Empowered Atenean in Mission for Mindanao,” is aimed to incorporate social relevance in the different activities to be participated by the students. It is centered on the Ateneans’ mission for Mindanao.
The opening was preceded by a parade from Rizal Park where students from various departments showed off their cluster colors and banners.
Renz Allan Lacorte, the overall coordinator of the Fiesta events and SAMAHAN Secretary-General, shared his sentiments regarding the opening program of the Saulog 2019.
“The opening program went well. It is very humbling and fulfilling to see students engage in this event. I think this is a testament to making a step in increasing student participation. The student council is dedicated to bringing joy, entertainment for the students and of course, relevance in every activity that we do,” Lacorte expressed.
Glena Marie Adrienne Prado, a fourth-year education student, shared how significant this celebration is for her.
“This is, hopefully, my last Ateneo fiesta, and I want to make it memorable. That is why I joined the parade, and I’ll participate in more events. I’m really excited,” Prado exclaimed.
