The Accountancy (ACC) Griffins dominated the game of words in the 68th Ateneo Fiesta and Intramurals’ Men and Women’s Scrabble event, held at F213, Ateneo de Davao University, last Aug. 12 .

Fourth year Accountancy student Reem Midjoy Roque said her victory over Kristine Joy Carabaña from the School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA) was a tough challenge, scoring 343-276.

“Nung first, siya (Carabaña) ang leading. Tapos may part na unacceptable ang word.  Tapos yun, na-minus siya. So, doon nagchange ang tide ng game. Nagfocus nalang ako na magbuild-up ng scores,” she said.

Roque said that the Griffins finally got their shot to grab the title of being the champion in the said indoor game.

“Overwhelmed [ako] kasi parang 2 years na kami naglaban-laban. Every time, [sila] talaga manalo. Ngayon lang talaga ang time na ako na ang nanalo. So yun, hindi ako makapaniwala,” she said.

Also playing for the second time, Keith Alro Amparado, also from ACC, triumphed over SEA player Sparkle Mirth Maluenda with scores of 320-303.

Amparado, a fifth year Accountancy student, said that he did not expect winning this year’s match as this is his last year of residence in the university.

“Wala jud ko nag-expect kay last year pud na palarong atenista, [fighting for] 3rd and 4th place nalang ko. Gihatag lang nako akong best kay last year naman, at least no regrets,” he said.

Amparado also said that he was challenged by Maluenda.

“Grabe uy, lisod kayo ang EA. Lisod man jud na siya (Maluenda), kay hawd man jud na siya. Gamay lang pajud ang lamang [sa scores],” he said.

Meanwhile, Business and Management Vipers’ Tiara Serene Alicando and Theo Felix Eduard Amelo placed 3rd as they won the battle against the School of Education (SOE) Sharks and Computer Science (CS) Chameleons respectively.
