Students cheered as the 29th Awitenista held their soft-launching in front of the Arrupe hall last

September 23.

The soft launching featured the performance of the winners of last year’s competition and the events

the Awitenista has in store for this year.

According to Awitenista in-charge Jane Marie Echaure, this year’s Awitenista will add a new segment,

the Awitenista Music Video Category.

The Awitenista is an annual song writing competition made for Ateneans to explore their talents in the

field of music.

“Iba kasi ang perception nila is banda-banda siya, kanta-kanta, pero no. It’s a song writing competition.

“It was produced 29 years ago nila Joey Ayala and his friends because gusto nila iportray ng mga

atenista [yung] pagiging makabayan and everything, [at] para mashowcase not only the talents [of the

students] sa pagplay ng instruments, but of course sa song writing nila,” Echaure said.

Kalasag – Ang Taunang Aklat ng Ateneo de Davao University produced the said event.

On December, the said competition will have its preliminaries and the grand finals will be held in

February or March.
