The Engineering and Architecture (EA) men’s and women’s basketball teams won their third place games, both within the closest of margins, in the Palarong Atenista Basketball Tournament Friday afternoon at the ADDU-Annex Gym.

On the first game, the EA Lady Tigers triumphed over the SS Lady Dragons, 36-34.

The Lady Tigers overcame a fourth quarter surge from the Lady Dragons. The Lady Tigers were up by 10, 35-25, with three minutes remaining in the final quarter, when the Lady Dragons went on a 9-0 run through three 3-point shots by Shannen Gapate and Cienna Joyce Lopez, cutting the deficit to one, 35-34. In the end, the Lady Tigers made big defensive stops in the final seconds of the game and eventually won to secure third place in the basketball tournament.

Natasha Santos was the leading scorer for the Lady Tigers, finishing with 16 points on 5/9 field goal shooting.

For the Lady Dragons, Cienna Joyce Lopez was the leading scorer with 18 points, including four 3-point shots.

On the second game, the EA Tigers edged the SS Dragons, 79-77, in the men’s basketball tournament.

The Tigers unleashed their offensive onslaught in the first half thanks to the steady plays from guards Joshua Damag and Jcarrlovic Tarranza, and closed out the first half up in double digits. But in the second half, the Dragons managed to catch up, closing out by decimating the lead to four points, 56-52. In the fourth quarter, both teams were locked in a tight battle, exchanging basket after basket, but the Tigers came through in the final minutes to secure the victory.

Damag was the leading scorer for the Tigers, finishing with 21 points on 9/15 shooting while Tarranza contributed 14 points of his own.

On the Dragons side, Rene Marte, Jr. was the leading scorer with 22 points, including five 3-pointers, five rebounds and three steals. Leo Lasola finished with 14 points and Evan Moleta added 12 points for the team.
