To commemorate Pediatric Cancer Awareness month, the Junior Social Workers Association of the Philippines (JSWAP) of the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) organized the #LetHairGo earlier today, Sept. 24.

The event was a hair donation drive for the benefit of children afflicted with the said cancer.

Donators were required to give at least six inches of their hair before tying them with rubber bands and placing them in zip lock bags. Afterwards, they were asked to write a short message for the beneficiaries.

JSWAP Chief of Staff Amara Abrina, who also donated some of her hair, stated that the donation drive is a way to show young cancer-afflicted children support and hope.

“We can do something. This September is dedicated as Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. We can do our part in helping these little angels out and making them happy. We are knocking on your generous hearts, to be one with us in making this month a celebration of love, life, and happiness, for the kids who are suffering from cancer by donating at least 6 inch of your hair,” she said.

Abrina also stated that the ArLyn basquez salon, one of JSWAP’s partners for the event, offered free haircuts for donators earlier today. She also added that the organization will still accept precut hair donations until Sept. 30

She also added that there were at least 30 donors earlier and that most of them were students and faculty members from AdDU.

The event was also organized in partnership with Ohana and CANCERvants PH.
