National Youth Commision (NYC) Regional officer Julius Gutierrez shared his view about the need for a Students Rights and Welfare law in a forum last Friday held at J301. Gutierrez said that NYC has long been advocating for the passage of such bill in the Congress.

“NYC believes that policies and programs that will contribute to protection of rights and welfare of the students should be implemented.”

He further explained that the Students Rights and Welfare (STRAW) bill, which is currently filed in the Congress at present, can empower students since it promotes academic freedom and student representation in school governance.

“The NYC believes that through an inclusive and enabling policy that will ensure student representation, the development of the student is upheld, “Gutierrez concluded.

The forum was participated by students and faculty members and was organized by the Office of Buklod Ambassador (OBA).

“The very aim of this forum is for us students to have understanding on what the bill is all about. This is to provide an avenue for everyone to at least show your interest in the said bill. ” John Rhyl L. Sialmo III ,the 31st Buklod Ambassador, said.
