The Samahan ng mga Mag-aaral ng Sining at Komunikasyon (SINIKOM) launched a back-to-school book collection drive for the benefit of the T’boli Sbú Senior High School (TSSHS) last June 4. The drive will continue until July 10.

The TSSHS is located at Barangay Lemdalag, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. Sources stated that it lacks in school facilities such as classrooms, library and its resource materials.

Two booths are available for accepting donations, one at SM City Davao and another at the Ateneo de Davao University’s Arrupe Hall. The first booth is open until Sunday, July 10 while the second one will be open until July 9.

SINIKOM External Vice President and event head Rexor Amancio stated that they would still accept donations even after July 10.

“We would still be accepting [books] until the last week of July,” he said.

Amancio also mentioned that SM City Davao, one of their partners, already has its advocacy called the “Educational Literacy Program” which supports organizations such as SINIKOM in promoting and hosting book collection drives like this.

He also encouraged everyone to participate in similar advocacies.

“This is what our university is asking from us. Initiative. Initiative and at the same time living by the vision-mission of the university.

“We are student leaders, and we are challenged. It is our duty and responsibility to serve our fellow students, but it is our challenge to extend this duty and responsibility to those people who are in need, outside our university,” Amancio said.

End the silence of the gagged!
