The cold weather did not stop the aspiring student leaders from different parties to gather at F501 for the discernment and filling of candidacy for the SAMAHAN Central Board elections on January 11.

“Discernment is coupled with prayer,” Melanie Oliver-Garrino, Assistant to the Director of Ignatian Spirituality and Formation Office (ISFO) said as she delivered her talk about Ignatian Leadership to help the candidates in their discernment and deepen their understanding about leadership.

After the activity, COMELEC’s Legal Head Marian Miciano reviewed the election guidelines for the aspiring SCB leaders. Miciano mentioned a new guideline for this year on the minimal use of tarpaulins for campaign materials to promote an eco-friendly election.

The filling of candidacies by the aspiring SCB leaders followed the review of guidelines.
April Ann Ledesma, the COMELEC Chairperson, said that they are boosting their promotion for the upcoming election to increase the participation of the students. The whole COMELEC aims to get a hundred-percent voters’ turn-out for this year compared from last year’s turn-out.

Ledesma added that they will be stricter in implementing rules and guidelines in this year’s election.
“I hope na mag participate sila this year… and also clean election,” said Ledesma as she delivered her message to the Ateneo Community.

The election campaign will start on January 12, Sunday.
