To promote the welfare of minority groups not only in the University, but also in the country, the SAMAHAN Welfare Committee conducted a quiz bowl called “Tagisan ng Talino” to cap off its Welfare week held at J303, last Dec. 2.

“Our goal as a committee under the Office of the President of SAMAHAN is to give service to the minorities or what we call subgroups.

“As part of the service, we have to let people know who are those that we protect and serve,” SAMAHAN Welfare Committee head Leomar Manansala said.

Last Nov. 28, 12 teams joined the elimination round to proceed to the final round of the said event.

Six teams composed of 5-6 members competed to be hailed as the first Tagisan ng Talino champion in the final round.

In the end, Suicide Squad from the Social Sciences Cluster bagged the title. Teams Chemystry and Johnnie Walker became first and second runner-ups respectively.

The Champions were given Php 2,000.00, the first runner-up was given Php 1,000.00 and the second runner-up was given Php 500.00. Each winning team was also give a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

“We used this Tagisan ng Talino for a purpose of spreading information to the public about the subgroups that we are handling, about their problems and experiences, and most of all the special things about them,” Manansala said.

The Welfare week was a 5-day event from Nov. 28 to Dec. 2.

Apart from the quiz bowl, the Welfare committee will also conduct a leadership training this Dec. 10 that was supposed to be part of the week-long celebration.

“Welfare week wasn’t able to establish the events well kaya ang natuloy lang kay TNT pero may YAKAP 2016 pa next Saturday na sana kasali doon.

“Yakap is a leadership training and it stands for Yaong Atong Kabatan-onan atong pagalambuon or in english, our Children, let’s nurture. Mangyari siya this Dec. 10. TBA pa ang venue. Nag-invite kami young leaders from sta.ana central elem school for a lecture about good leadership and governance,” Manansala said.
