Last June 10, 2013, the Roxas open field was jam-packed with students from freshmen to the graduating batch for “Blast off” – SAMAHAN’s semester opener – with the theme “SAMAHAN and beyond”.

The event was hosted by Adzie Madroñero and Ralston San Pedro.

To spice things up, a production number was presented with 3 dancers per division before the program formally opened.

Robin Tongcua, the SAMAHAN Central Board President, gave his opening remarks for the students for this academic year 2013-2014.

“’SAMAHAN and beyond’ is more than just a motto but also a vision. The vision is for ‘SAMAHAN’, the whole student body, to be men and women for others and ‘beyond’, meaning to be a part of the vast society of Mindanao and Davao,” he said.

Mr. Bong Eliab also gave his welcome remarks in behalf of Fr. Joel Tabora, S.J.

The point persons for the Campus Club Organization (CCO), General Assembly of Class Presidents (GACP), Division representatives, and three main SAMAHAN Central Board officers were introduced to let the students be familiar with their faces.

Talents were showcased as they dedicated the rest of the program to entertain the crowd.

Shaira Rica Opsimar, 2012 Star Search Winner, sang her own rendition of “Just Give Me A Reason” by Pink.

Three different bands also presented that afternoon as the program ended. First, the 26th Awitenista Grand Champion, Jayce Mark San Rafael and the Company, who sang “Sana”, their other entry in the recently concluded competition. They were followed by the Art and Soul band.

The Enamor Band ended the program by singing their original composition, “Di Masabi”.

The event ended with smiles on the students’ faces, looking forward for the upcoming events for the Academic Year 2013-2014.
