In a game where grit and toughness was tested, the Accountancy (BSA/AT) Griffins reigned supreme again claiming the 8-peat by fending off the Social Sciences (SS) Dragons in the Volleyball Women’s category 16-25, 25,20, 25-16, 19,25, 15-7 last Aug. 13 held at 7th floor of the Martin Hall.

The girls in yellow took an early lead in the first set but their various errors hampered them. The ladies from SS capitalized on this, drawing first blood in the first set, kicking off a 12-3 run to end the set.

The Griffins however, stormed back and took control of the game by taking the second and third sets behind great team play and some miscues from the Dragons.

The volley belles of the SS looked spent from the constant attacks from the Griffin players in the fourth set, down 18-21 and facing elimination, they managed to pull off a comeback and go on a 7-1 scoring spree and setting up a fifth set duel for the crown.

The Griffins sealed the deal in the fifth set destroying a fatigued Dragons team 15-7, claiming their eight straight championship and making history in the process.

“It was such a fulfilling feeling, the late-night practices and fatigue was all worth it. It was also relieving that we didn’t let down our seniors. We went in that game with plans of lessening our errors and just playing our game.” Griffins team captain Crisel Lupogan said in a post-game interview.
