Jonald Fenecios of the Faculty Lions prevailed as the overall champion of the men’s chess tournament for the 2015 Palarong Atenista, Sunday afternoon at J301.

Players from the Humanities and Letters, Computer Studies, Accountancy, and Faculty all clinched their spots to the final round after beating their respective opponents in the preliminary games.

Eventually, Fenecios edged out Accountancy’s Nyll Gabylle Gascon and retained the chess championship which he won last year.

“Just, from time to time, I reviewed plays from grandmasters then I set a time to study their games. Also, because in high school I was a player in chess and I also participated in tournaments sometimes. Those are the strategies,” Fenecios said.

The games concluded with the following results:

Champion: Jonald Fenecios (Faculty)

1st runner up: Nyll Gabrylle Gascon (ACC)

2nd runner up: Taisho Nudas (HumLet)
