The preliminary round of the men’s basketball tournament for this year’s Palarong Atenista began as the defending champions; Accountancy Griffins bagged their first win against the Engineering and Architecture Tigers, 44-35, Sunday morning at the Martinez Sports Complex of AdDU-Matina.

Tarranza led all scorers for the Griffins with 18 points on 5/13 field goal shooting including three 3-pointers while Aranjuez contributed with eight points, two rebounds, and two steals.

For the Tigers, Pasaylo had a team-high eight points with two rebounds and three steals while Solon added seven points on 3/5 shooting from the field.

On the next game, the Business and Management Vipers dominated the Social Sciences Dragons for their first win, 46-29.

Revote led the Vipers with 12 points on 6/8 FG shooting while Fulgeririas and Sotto contributed with 10 and 8 points, respectively.

For the Dragons, Supan scored 11 points including two 3-point shots while Evangelista contributed with seven points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

In the third game, the Faculty Lions won by 59 points against the School of Education Sharks, 84-25.

13 out of the 15 players scored for the Lions, which were led by Samante’s 12 points and Villanueva’s eight points and four rebounds.

For the Sharks, Belen led all scorers with 11 points together with three rebounds and four steals.

On the fourth game and last game of the day, the Computer Studies Chameleons ran over the Humanities and Letters Wolves, 52-31.

Macacua led the Chameleons in scoring with 18 points on 8/14 shooting from the field together with four rebounds and two blocked shots while Mangrobang contributed with eight points, two rebounds, two assists, and three steals.

For the Wolves, Abella scored seven points on 3/7 FG shooting while Unabia and Luman-ag contributed with five points each.
