Revolutionary banners were at scene as thousands of people from different areas in Mindanao gathered to pay one last homage to fallen NPA commander Leoncio “Ka Parago” Pitao last July 9, 2015 at the Almendras Gymnasium, Davao City.

The people also mourned the loss of 27 year old medic Vanessa “Ka Kyle” Limpag, who was killed along with Ka Parago while she was treating him for various conditions.

Pitao, before his death, was a top priority of the Philippine Army and was considered as the most wanted NPA leader for the last five years. He was also considered as one of the most evasive revolutionaries of his time.

Ka Parago’s wife was one of the first speakers of the night, recounting her life story with him and how simple their life was together.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte also came to the event to pay tribute to Ka Parago. Throughout his stint as mayor, Duterte and Parago have been good friends and the two could often be seen together posing for pictures during meetings.

Reverend Jurie Jaime of the Exodus for Justice and Peace, along with Sheena Duazo, were the hosts of the program.

One Mr. Teofilo, who came in his all-red indigenous garments, said that he came all the way from his farms in the province just to attend the event.

The event lasted until early morning. And even after well past midnight, the gym and the area around it was still jam-packed with attendees.

End the silence of the gagged!
