Music, prayers, poetry, and prose opened the Arrupe Week Celebration of the Ateneo Community as it was commenced through an hour-long reflection followed by a Eucharistic mass yesterday afternoon, February 5 at the Our Lady of Assumption Chapel. Centering on the theme, “Love as the driving force of society,” the event was followed by the Arrupe Exhibit launching at the Arrupe Hall, Martin Building.

During the said event, Fr. Daniel McNamara, SJ shared his encounter with Fr. Pedro Arrupe, SJ. He talked about how down to earth and dedicated Arrupe is in his duties as the 28th Superior General of the Society of Jesus.
Three points were highlighted during the reflection- to act justly, love tenderly and to walk humbly with God. Lilibeth Arcena, chair of the Arrupe Office of Social Formation, conveyed how great Arrupe’s influence in their ministry in the university.
“Fr. Arrupe is actually known as the second Ignatius since he has a legacy that reaches not only the Jesuits but the church at large. It is a legacy of forming men and women for others, committed to human dignity, the common good and the Jesuit mission defined as a service of faith for the promotion of justice,” Arcena said.
The next event of the Arrupe Week will be the “Love Stories: Wanderers and Watchers of the Night”, a storytelling session of how couples met, fell in love and journeyed to where they are now. The activity will be held in the Finster Auditorium during the Activity period of February 7.
