The crowd was hotter than the afternoon last January 11, 2013 as the Palarong Atenista Basketball Women’s Championship match was played between Accountancy and Business and Management Departments at the Ateneo Annex. The clash ended with the Lady Griffins snatching championship gold at a very close score of 35-34.

The scores on the 1st quarter was a close shot lead by BSA at 7-6. The Vipers moved their way to a lead at the end of 2nd quarter at 15 points leaving BSA with 13 points. The game was real intense when the Vipers nailed the Griffins at 25 and a 3 point lead for Vipers at 28. On the 4th quarter players were desperate to rebound and shoot the ball. The shot clock ticked down to the last few seconds of the game and a foul was called, leading to the decisive free throw from the Griffins’ KC Timtim that made the one-point-difference.

“Fulfilling siya and makahappy. Kahit down kami, kahit malaki ang kalaban ine-encourage parin kami,” shared the Griffins’ captain Jennifer Panes.

Griffins star KC Timtim was still overjoyed when she was interviewed. “Happy. Pero wala mang ‘highest pointer-highest pointer’ basta para sa team.”

As the winning team and their supporters jumped and celebrated in the court, Atenews had the chance to interview the BSA-MA-AT representative, Ms. Eloisa Ramirez. “I’m speechless. Very thankful ako,” as she looked for words to explain her joy. “I’m overwhelmed na nahitabo ni siya, kasi yesterday it was just a prayer. Thankful ako masyado. Happy kaayo ko,” she added as she flashed a very big smile.

Indeed, the Palaro’s Basketball Women championship game made the Atenistas’ afternoon sizzling hot.
