Students flocked to the Arrupe Hall as the 30th Awitenista soft launching commenced last Nov. 9, 2016

During the activity period, onlookers and bystanders were greeted by music from the various performers of the event that included the previous participants and potential performers for this year’s event.

Awitenista is the annual songwriting competition which can be participated by the entire Ateneo community including the college community, the senior high school department, and the teaching and non-teaching personnel.

Joey Ayala and his colleagues created the songwriting competition back in 1987 as an avenue for students to show their love for the country and ability in songwriting.

Event organizers hinted that students should be on the lookout for a surprise in this year’s competition. They stated that the preliminary stage could be held this December while the finals could take place by late February or early March.

“Grabe kaganda pakinggan ng music nila and makita mo talaga ang emotions ng singers while performing but I hope that they would improve the sound system a little so that the singers could be more audible,” said third year Business Management student Cecille Carpio

Kalasag – Ang Taunang Aklat ng Ateneo de Davao University organized the yearly event.
