During the 44th anniversary of the Martial Law declaration, progressive groups and other private sectors filled the streets last Sept. 21 as they marched in protest, condemning the hero’s burial of former Pres. Ferdinand Marcos.

With placards raised, the groups initially gathered at the Freedom Park before marching off to Rizal Park.

In an interview, Anakbayan member Malaya Genotiva explained the nature of the protest.

Progressive groups such as Anakbyan, Gabriela, Kadamay, League of Filipino Students, among others were the leading participants of the protest.

Meanwhile, Danilo Villegas from Samahan ng Ex-Detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto, claimed that most of their lives were unreasonably restricted, making their lives difficult.

“Sa noon, parang walang kayalaan ang taumbayan. Hindi man lang magabihan manggaling sa palengke,” Villegas said.

End the silence of the gagged!
