In celebration of the very first English Week Festival, students participated the Extemporaneous  Speaking Contest and Jazz Chant Competition yesterday, Sept. 16, at J301.

The competition was open for all students who are enrolled in Speech Arts classes.

Seven students from different classes participated the Extemporaneous Speaking Contest while four groups joined the Jazz Chant Competition.

The extemporaneous speakers addressed the question about how language could be used as a tool for more humane and ecologically responsible local communities.

Shortly thereafter, the Jazz Chant participants performed their various pieces which promote environmental protection.

“The event was very entertaining,” GT Conception, a second year Education student, expressed after watching the performances.

He added that Ateneo should give more support those kinds of event.

The winners of the said competitions will be announced tomorrow, September 18, during the culmination of the English Week Festival.

The theme for the said festival is “English: A global superhighway for more humane and ecologically responsible local communities.”
