The Ateneo Debate Varsity (ADV) will be conducting its annual summer debate training program starting on April 11, 2016.

ADV is the official debate and public speaking organization of the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU).

The program will start on April 11 to May 21, 2016 at J404, and will be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1PM-5PM.

Hazel Bergantinos, the incumbent ADV Vice President for Training, stated that the program aims to introduce debate excellence to the Ateneo Community and to train aspiring members of the varsity to be competitive debaters in the future.

“Our aim is to spread the love for debate, develop more critical thinkers in the university, and impart the values of hard work, commitment, and teamwork. We also aspire to send more competitive Atenean debaters to regional and national debate tournaments to honorably represent the university”, she said.

Bergantinos also explained the mechanics of the program.

“The Junior and Senior members of ADV will each be assigned a mentee, whom they will meet during regular sessions, three times a week. These sessions will be filled with lectures, exercises, and other mentoring activities, which will help develop the debate and public speaking skills of the participants”, she said.

She also said that there is going to be a culminating activity at the end of the program

“The summer training Program will be concluded by the Magis Cup, a British Parliamentary debate tournament where all the participants of the program will compete against each other to exhibit what they have learned in the course of the summer training program”, she added.

The program is open to all bona fide students of AdDU. There is no debate experience required.
