In a special board meeting held October 9, 2010, the University Board of Trustees elected Father Joel E. Tabora SJ as the next president of the Ateneo de Davao University. He will be succeeding current president Father Antonio Samson SJ and will assume office at the end of this academic year.

He earned his college degree, AB Pre-Divinity and continued his graduate degree, MA in Philosopy, at Ateneo de Manila University. He also finished MA in Theology and PhD in Philosophy in Lepold-Franzens University, Innsbruck, Austria. Born on September 26, 1947, Father Tabora entered the Society of Jesus on July 16, 1965 and was ordained as priest on June 12, 1976.

He is the President and Superior of Ateneo de Naga University since 1999 until the present. He served as rector of San Jose Seminary from 1989-1995 and became President of the Loyola School of Theology from 1994-1999. He has been a part of the Board of Trustees of this university since 2001.

As SY 2010-2011 is about to [end] with great memories worth cherishing, we enthusiastically welcome a promising AY 2011-2012 under our new father-president.
