“Strong and Proud: Yes we exist, but do you really know us?”

This is what the LGBT community asked the Ateneo community during the forum on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI), yesterday at the Roxas Grounds.

Organized by the SAMAHAN welfare desk and the LGBT community of Ateneo De Davao University, this event was done for the LGBT to inform the University community about their existence and to raise awareness against LGBT discrimination and for equal LGBT rights.

“We want to inform the Ateneo community that the LGBT community exist and LGBT rights are also Human rights and we deserved not to be discriminated inside school.” Janna Magbanua, SAMAHAN welfare desk head said.

The program started with a parade by the ADDU LGBT community to really express them being strong and proud about themselves. Then a forum on SOGI was led by the APILA Director Atty. Romeo “Meong” Cabarde.
“The LGBT community of AdDU is long overdue to come out and express. So this is really a bold step for the LGBT community to be recognized and to end the silent screams against discrimination.” Cabarde said

The program became a good opportunity for the AdDU community to be oriented that the university that the LGBT community also co-exist with them.
