The Finster Auditorium was filled with childhood wonder and magic as the nine divisions sang their hearts out last night during Star search 2016 with the theme “The magical tales of Disney”.

For the first category, the performers were tasked to perform their own renditions of Classical Disney songs. The songs choices were taken from various classical Disney movies such as Alladin, Mulan, and Hercules among others.

For the second category, the divisions all gave lively performances of Modern Disney songs. Songs for this category were taken from more recent Disney films such as Frozen, Tangled, and Cars among others.

Every cluster gave their best on stage but only three divisions namely Social Sciences (SS) Dragons, the School of Education (SoE) Sharks, and the Natural Sciences and Mathematics (NSM) Falcons made it into the semi-finals. The final task challenged the top 3 clusters to sing the song Beauty and the Beast in a do-or-die match for the Star Search 2016 title.

Everyone was able to perform except the SS division because of an error regarding the minus one that was played during her performance. The said issue is still under investigation.

In the end, Johanne Manapol from NSM Falcons rose among the clusters and was crowned this year’s Star Search 2016 winner.  She later shared her sentiments regarding her performance and winning the title.

“I’ve always loved singing Disney songs since I was a kid and it has been really a part of me ever since. As I performed on stage, it’s as if my life-long dream has finally come to a reality. When I won, I was at awe! I never really imagined that I was going to be the champion because all of the other contenders are equally as talented.

“I thanked God for my talents and for giving me the opportunity to share what He has given me [and] to other people. Until now, I still can’t believe I won! I am thankful for all of the people who believed in me and in my capabilities,” Manapol said.

End the silence of the gagged!
