Divisions faced off crunching numbers during the Palarong Atenista Men’s Sudoku Challenge where the Accountancy Division Griffins (ACC) representative Dexter Joy Gupana reigned supreme once more in the game of logic and numbers which took place last Aug. 12 at Room F213 of the school.

Gupana scored 1690 points in the easy round, 2910 points in the average round, and 5200 points in the difficult round for a total of 9800 points.

It was a landslide win for Gupana since he gained 4140 points more than his competition from the Social Sciences (SS) Dragons, who came in second in the event.

Gupana shared his doubts and feelings upon joining the event.

“I felt really happy [with the results] because the moment I entered the venue of the event, I had doubts whether I could raise the banner of my division. In the end, I left the venue with a feeling of confidence since I knew that I did my best,” he said.

Gupana secured victory for the second time after making history as he won in the Sudoku Challenge the first time it was introduced to the Palarong Atenista events last year.

For the women’s category of the event, School of Engineering and Architecture Tigers (SEA) representative Nicole Molina was hailed victor.

Molina scored 750 points in the easy round, 2385 points in the average round, and 4180 points in the difficult round for an overall score of 7855 points.

It was a small margin win for Molina and she shared the anxiety she felt when the results underwent a recount.

“Nahappy ko kay nakadaog ko. Mej kulba tung pagrecount kay 10 points lang akong lamang sa unofficial results” she said.

She also mentioned how she did not expect winning the event.

“Wala ko nagexpect kay wala ko nagatraining or practice gyud og mga ani na stuff.”

Molina placed second during the same event last year but this time she claimed victory.

The puzzles at the tournament consisted of different variations of Sudoku: Samurai (comprised of 5 overlapping puzzles), Wordoku (puzzle using letters instead of numbers), Kendoku (puzzle involving arithmetic), Irregular Sudoku (puzzles that are not in traditional squares) and Futoshiki (puzzle inequality symbols).
